You’re Fired! (don’t let a client cost you your license)

When I opened my own brokerage in 2013, I wanted to incorporate a tag line into my marketing that would let people know a little about who they were considering hiring as their Realtor® – prior to our interview. The result was:

At Home With Diversity℠, Green, Proud to Have Served

These are listed purposely in order of importance to me and my business model. So you can imagine how surprised I am whenever a new client says something like, well, “I had to move to Utah to find a job because I wasn’t brown enough to get hired in Texas.” (true story). If my tactful explanation of my business policy, ethics and commitment to fair housing practices isn’t enough of a cease and desist notice, then I respectfully request a release from my agency agreement with my client – Buyer or Seller. I’ve done it. I did it in this case. It isn’t hard. Stand on principle.
